Hero 2nd Division League 2019-20: FC Goa held to a draw by Bengaluru United
The FC Goa Developmental Team was today held to a 1-1 draw at the Bangalore Football Stadium today by Bengaluru United. After a scoreless first half, the goals came in quick succession in the second period with both teams going for the kill.
Both, however, had to settle for a point by the time the referee blew for full time.
The young Gaurs got off to a quick start, but had to wait till the 32nd minute for their first big chance of the game. A header, knocked into a dangerous area into the middle of the box saw Leander D’Cunha latch onto it first. The shot from the right-back forced the keeper into a good save.
The home side came out the brighter of the two sides and got themselves ahead in the 66th minute of the game. A brilliantly taken free-kick from Asraf Ali Mondal was too good for the outstretched arms of Dylan D’Silva in the FC Goa goal to give Bengaluru the lead.
Their joys were short-lived as Ivon Costa helped the visitors draw level a minute later. A vicious shot from the right flank from the midfielder saw Deepak S, in the Bengaluru goal, helpless as it swayed and dipped at the right moment to bring FC Goa back into the game.
Sweden Fernandes found himself with a great chance to win it for the Gaurs late on in the 80th minute when he found himself one-on-one with the keeper. His shot, though, was straight at the keeper.
The draw sees the young Gaurs remain in third position with 12 points from their 7 games – only behind ARA FC and Bengaluru United.
The Developmental team are scheduled to be back in action on 16th March when they take on group-leaders ARA FC at Eka Arena in Ahmedabad.
