FCG Recap (2015): FC Goa triumph 2-0 over Chennaiyin FC

Today’s FCG Recap takes us back to 2015 and the second season of the ISL when the legendary Zico managed FC Goa, and led the side to a comfortable win over Chennaiyin FC.

A tense first half

Both sides had chances to get on the scoresheet during the first period, but were left frustrated as neither capitalised on their opportunities.

The game was left in the balance with 45 minutes still to play.

Penalty to the Gaurs

After the hour mark, Rafael Coelho found himself on the end of a long ball, but was taken down inside the box by Bernard Mendy, leading to the referee pointing to the spot.

Leo Moura stepped up for FC Goa, and fired the ball into the top corner, making it 1-0 and silencing the home support.

Lucca secures the points

Jonatan Lucca was the man who sealed the points for the Gaurs, despite threats from Chennaiyin suggesting that an equaliser was in the works.

It was a penalty once again that did the trick, with Mehrajuddin Wadoo adjudged to have handled the ball after an effort from Rafael Coelho.

Lucca stepped up this time, and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Chennaiyin down to 10

The misery was compounded for the Marina Machans late on as a rash challenge from Harmanjot Singh Khabra left Leo Moura fuming.

The referee showed the Chennaiyin man red and the home side were down to ten.

Onwards and Upwards!

The final whistle brought with it delight for FC Goa as their victory meant that not only were the Gaurs sitting pretty at the top of the table, but had also extracted a bit of revenge on their opponents for a 4-0 defeat earlier in the season.
